Therapy for Self-Harm in Charlotte

If you are in danger right now, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911. We are not an emergency service.

If you’re hurting yourself, it’s usually because you’re hurting, period. Self-harm is often a way to cope with feelings that seem too big to hold. That makes sense. And you deserve ways to cope that don’t hurt you.

Sound familiar?

  • You use physical pain to quiet emotional pain
  • You feel relief afterward, then shame
  • You hide it from people who care about you
  • You want to stop, but don’t know what else would work
  • You’re a parent who just found out, and you’re scared

How we help

No judgment. No lectures. We start by understanding what self-harm does for you, because it’s doing something. Then we build other ways to meet that need. We use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, which have strong research support for reducing self-harm, along with work on the pain underneath. Safety planning is part of the process, done with you, not to you.

What to expect

Honest conversations, practical skills, and a therapist who won’t freak out. For teens, we involve parents in ways that support safety while respecting privacy as much as we can. More on therapy for teens.

Who you'll work with

FAQ

For teens, there are times we need to involve parents to keep you safe. We’ll be upfront about exactly how that works from your very first session, so there are no surprises.

Not always, though they can overlap. Either way, it’s worth talking about, and we’ll ask about it directly and calmly.

We’re intentionally out of network with insurance, which keeps your care confidential and in your hands, not an insurance company’s. We can give you a superbill to submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement. See current rates on our policies page.
